Gov. Caleb Mutfwang Wins APC Plateau Governorship Primary in Landslide Victory

Caleb Mutfwang has emerged as the winner of the governorship primary election conducted by the All Progressives Congress in Plateau State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Mutfwang defeated fellow aspirant Yilchini Jan Bida after the collation of results from the 17 local government areas of the state.

The result was officially announced by the Chairman and Returning Officer of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee, Fidelis Bemse.
According to Bemse, the primary election recorded a total of 240,832 registered voters across Plateau State, while 236,405 votes were cast during the exercise.

Mutfwang polled 233,335 votes to secure victory, representing approximately 98.7 percent of the total votes cast, while Bida garnered 3,070 votes, representing about 1.3 percent.
The governor defeated his opponent with a margin of 230,265 votes, amounting to a lead of about 97.4 percentage points.

Mutfwang recorded victories across all 17 local government areas of Plateau State, posting wide margins throughout the state.
In Jos North Local Government Area, Mutfwang secured 26,652 votes against Bida’s 68 votes, while in Mangu Local Government Area he polled 28,095 votes compared to Bida’s 46 votes.

Similarly, the governor scored 19,595 votes in Kanam Local Government Area as Bida received 119 votes, while in Shendam Local Government Area, Mutfwang polled 17,208 votes against Bida’s 389 votes.

Other results showed Mutfwang polling 16,182 votes in Jos South against Bida’s 83 votes, 14,285 votes in Langtang North against 79 votes, and 12,574 votes in Wase against 59 votes.

Bida recorded his strongest performances in Qua’an Pan and Kanke local government areas where he secured 687 votes and 481 votes respectively.

Declaring the result, Bemse stated that Mutfwang satisfied all constitutional requirements of the party and emerged with the highest number of valid votes cast during the exercise.

“Therefore, Caleb Mutfwang, having satisfied the requirements of the APC constitutional guidelines and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner of the primary election and returned elected,” Bemse stated.

With the declaration, Mutfwang becomes the official governorship candidate of the APC in Plateau State for the 2027 general elections.
