Mikang 2027: Garkawa District Adopts Timdi Nkat as Consensus Candidate, Declares Massive Support for Mutfwang’s Re-election

Stakeholders from Garkawa District in Mikang Local Government Area of Plateau State have unanimously presented Mr. Timdi Nkat as their consensus candidate for the Plateau State House of Assembly seat ahead of the 2027 elections, in what political observers now describe as a major turning point and likely decider ahead of the APC primaries.

The endorsement, which also came with a resounding declaration of support for the re-election of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, was reached during a high-powered stakeholders’ meeting held on Thursday and attended by political leaders, traditional rulers, elders, youth groups, women leaders and party faithful from Youm, Tehl and Piapung districts.

The gathering is being widely interpreted as one of the strongest political alignments to emerge from Mikang ahead of 2027, with many describing the consensus around Timdi Nkat as a strategic and influential endorsement capable of shaping the outcome of the APC primaries in the constituency.

Speaking on behalf of the Youm stakeholders forum, former State Auditor, Mr. Ishaku Fanto, said the decision followed extensive consultations involving the Mwo Youm of Garkawa, council of chiefs, political stakeholders and community leaders.

According to him, the endorsement was built on the principles of fairness, equity, justice and inclusive representation, noting that Youm District remains the only major district in Mikang yet to produce a member of the Plateau State House of Assembly.

He maintained that allowing the district to produce the next representative would strengthen unity and deepen political balance within the local government.

Fanto also reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the people of Youm to the second-term bid of Governor Mutfwang, describing the governor as a leader whose administration has continued to promote unity, peace and development across Plateau State.

Former member of the House of Representatives for Mikang/Shendam/Qua’an Pan Federal Constituency, Hon. Innocent Tirsel, said zoning and power rotation have remained vital political instruments for sustaining peace and fairness in Mikang.

He noted that Piapung District had already occupied the State Assembly seat for 16 years and currently holds the chairmanship position of Mikang Local Government Council, insisting that equity demands that the Assembly seat be allowed to shift to Youm District.

Tirsel added that political parties seeking victory in 2027 must pay attention to the prevailing mood of the people and the growing consensus already building across the districts.

Also speaking, former Chairman of Mikang Local Government and ex-member of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Isa Kungwai, cautioned against actions capable of disrupting the long-standing political understanding and unity in the area.

Former Director-General of PEPSA, Mr. Nuhu Longpes, described Timdi Nkat’s emergence as the true reflection of the collective will of the people, noting that the endorsement demonstrated political maturity, broad acceptance and a shared resolve to strengthen Mikang’s political future.

On behalf of Piapung stakeholders, former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. George Daika, commended the stakeholders for embracing dialogue, consensus and inclusiveness.

Daika stressed that the endorsement of Timdi Nkat goes beyond the aspiration of Youm District and has now evolved into a broader Mikang project anchored on fairness, unity and political stability.

The meeting attracted several prominent political and community leaders, including Chairman of the Plateau State Civil Service Commission, Prof. Paul Wai; former Transition Committee Chairman, Hon. Magdaline Bagudu; former Executive Secretary, Emmanuel Taukek; Barr. Chasil Drenkat; elected and supervisory councillors, as well as youth and women groups.

In a symbolic show of solidarity and growing political momentum, stakeholders and supporters later marched to the Mikang Local Government Council Secretariat where they formally presented their resolutions to the Executive Chairman of the council.

The event concluded with a renewed commitment by stakeholders to work together towards a common political direction for Mikang in 2027, with many political watchers already describing the endorsement of Timdi Nkat as a significant political boost that could ultimately determine the outcome of the forthcoming APC primaries.
