Theophilus Maimako, the founder of Green Eden Farms, is proving that innovation in agriculture can come from the most unexpected places, even from a trained lawyer and university lecturer.

Born and raised in Jos- Nigeria, Theophilus began his academic journey at the University of Jos where he earned a degree in Law (LL.B). He proceeded to the Nigerian Law School and was called to the bar in 2015. After completing his national youth service (NYSC) in 2016, he returned to the University of Jos as a lecturer, contributing to academic development and training young legal minds.
In 2017, he furthered his education at the University of Galway in Ireland, where he obtained his Master’s degree in Law (LL.M). During his time in Ireland, he worked for a year at the Insight Centre for Data Analytics, where he was introduced to the power of technology and data. That experience would later influence his move into the agricultural space, where he saw technology as a tool to solve real challenges facing smallholder farmers in Nigeria.
On returning home, Theophilus co-founded Green Eden Farms, an agricultural company using smart technologies like IoT sensors, AI-powered advisory tools, and solar-powered cold storage to support farmers in adapting to climate change, reducing crop loss, and increasing food production. Green Eden Farms focuses on innovation, youth inclusion, and sustainable farming.
The company has built strong partnerships with local and international organizations such as the African Union, African Development Bank, Heifer International, Flour Mills of Nigeria, COLEAD in France, and the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN).
In 2023, Green Eden Farms was selected by the African Union Commission as part of the first cohort of the Enterprise African Network, a program created to support selected businesses across the continent to promote the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA). Green Eden was one of only two businesses selected from Nigeria and one of 19 across Africa.
His home state, Plateau, also recognized his impact. The state government under Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang appointed Theophilus to the committee for the Youth Agricultural Plateau Program (BARC Farms), a 4000-hectare farming initiative that will train and house 1,000 Plateau youths in modern agriculture and innovation. The goal of the programme is to build a new generation of skilled, tech-savvy farmers and agribusiness leaders.
Shortly after this appointment, Theophilus was honored by the Federal Government of Nigeria at the African Union Conference Dinner and Awards Night. Green Eden Farms was named the 2nd Best Agricultural Company in Nigeria under the 7th National MSME Clinic Awards, out of over 60,000 applicants nationwide and abroad. This recognition was a major milestone, not only for Theophilus but also for his team and the entire state.
Through his work, Theophilus Maimako continues to inspire many young Africans. He has shown that agriculture is not just about farming, it is about innovation, leadership, and creating lasting solutions for the future. From law and academics to the farm and tech fields, his journey is one of dedication, vision, and real impact.
